Halfway Point

I can't believe today was already day three of VBS! We are having a Roaring good time!

Today our parish had a funeral. And there was going to be a luncheon. That meant we couldn't use our gathering space for one of our rotation locations as normal and after VBS was over we had about 30 minutes to clean up the VBS stuff and get the luncheon stuff set up.

It was amazing to see how the body of Christ came together to serve the kids and the grieving family.

Happy Wednesday!

Weekend Fun!

We had a really good weekend! Starting with the Weinermobile! (And a weenie whistle for everyone.)

Saturday morning strawberry picking. It was BEAUTIFUL! 70 degrees, sunny, hardly any bugs (and it has been a crazy buggy summer so far so that was excellent) and easy easy picking. We got 20lbs of berries really fast.

I went to see a show. But NOT to review it. That was a treat. I forgot how much fun that is!! (Which is so funny to say.)

VBS set up for this busy week ahead.

Rounding out the weekend with 9 jars and a little extra of the most delicious homemade strawberry jam. While we made it, we listened to pop music from 1998. Why? Because as we were listening we could say "Ah! This is my jam!"

And with that terrible pun, I wish you a happy Monday. VBS is keeping me busy this week but maybe a post tomorrow? We will see!

Cruising Into Friday

Today is C's first day with no restrictions! So obviously it's going to rain so he can't go play his scooter like he's been wanting to.

Yesterday was M's last day of Pinkalicious camp and it was crazy hair day. We went with a braid, bun and rainbow pony.

My mom said it was kinda like a mullet description. Business in the front, party in the back. She isn't wrong.

I spied my guy in his camps free time doing what else? Reading.

After camp we went to see The True Story of The Three Little Pigs musical.

I did take out the crazy hair before we went. M did not mind.

Today was C's last day of It's a Mystery Camp so M and I got to play together at the museum. It was the first time ever that one of my kids really wanted to play with the mail delivery. If I've never mentioned it before I love getting mail. It is one of my favorite things in the world and my favorite time of day. Federal holidays disappoint me.

We did a lot but she had fun scooping me some ice cream too!

And we are ready for a fun weekend! I hope you are too!

Fun Stuff!

We had a fun full day yesterday! C's camp started!

After camp, we went to Wendy's for lunch quick because we had a birthday party to go to at the other museum!

It's so fun to be out and about. I am so very thankful that even when I think my kids are rough for the most part they are very easy going and capable of going places. We've got to get back to the second museum soon as a whole family!

Today after camp drop off I went and got a smoothie and then just read my book in the parking lot. It was really relaxing. I went back inside with just enough time to steal this picture of my guy working on an activity.

It's kind of a dreary day here. Not really raining but just drizzling enough to make you wet. Tomorrow we will be two weeks out from surgery and then all the restrictions lift! I will be very curious if crunchy foods miraculously don't hurt or if we will still take it easy for a while.

First Outings

So we are finally getting to do some fun things. C still has to take it easy until Thursday but we have ventured out for a little low-key fun.

Friday he accompanied me to see Beauty and the Beast. He liked it. The theatre liked his Marie, the baguettes, Hurry Up! shirt.

Saturday we celebrated his birthday with his friend. He didn't want a big party but he did want to do something so we invited his best friend to Barnes and Noble for story time. (Please tell me you take your littles? It's awesome. They read a story, do activities and give out a cookie for free! Every Saturday! Sometimes the books are better than others but it's a fun outing.)

After story time, they each got to pick a book, then we went to the food court for a Chick-Fil-A lunch then down the mall hallway for some ice cream. Easy peasy super low-key party featuring all of his favorite things!

Yesterday he crashed hard. Because even though tonsillectomies seem like they aren't a big deal, they kind of are. And they aren't kidding when they say up to a full two weeks until back to normal. His scabs are almost all the way gone. And he still gets tired more quickly. That could also be because his appetite still isn't back to normal.

Today was M's first day of Pinkalicious Camp at our little children's museum. She was very excited. (And yes, she had picked out pink clothing options for all her days.)

C got to hang out with me at the museum during her two-hour camp. C has his own camp that runs tomorrow through the end of the week. On Friday M will get to hang out with me at the museum since her camp will be over.

It's been nice to finally do some fun stuff! More soon!

Games

For his birthday C got two games. Ticket to Ride First Journey because we have the grown-up version and really enjoy playing it. The adult game isn't hard but it does require a lot of strategy and C isn't super strategic yet so we thought the simplified version would be a good place to start.

Then he got this gumball math game because my guy is prone to rushing through math problems and making sloppy mistakes. (Because in Kindergarten when you're done in math he was allowed to have free reading time and there's not a whole lot my kid would rather do than read.) So I thought a math fact game to really boost his confidence and memorization would be a nice addition to our summer.

Turns out, they are perfect activities for this post-tonsillectomy no running and jumping thing we've got going on here.

Yesterday a friend took M for the morning so she could play outside and get some energy out. So we played games!

We played two rounds of Ticket to Ride First Journey. We tied the first game and he won the second.

I only helped him in that I got him the cardholder to make his life easier and pointed out that he had some of his routes already. (Because they were short and part of other routes of his.)

The math game went on for a long time. If you drew a pop gumball you were supposed to put your whole stack back in, but with two players that would have made the game really long. (With 90 math fact gumballs the minimum number of turns without any pop cards in play is already 30 turns.) So we just discarded them in a separate pile with the used "pops."

Don't mind the half eaten blueberry muffin. He didn't think the plate was necessary and I've been choosing my battles lately since getting him to just sit and rest has been complicated.

Resting and Recuperating

Hello and happy Monday! We are over here trying to rest and recuperate. For the most part, C is doing really well. He does NOT like taking his medicine, which I take as a good sign that he isn't feeling a lot of pain since he doesn't understand the importance of the medicine.

It feels a little like the newborn days again as he gets something every two hours around the clock and wow. The 3:00 AM dosage is not my favorite. (Or C's either, to be honest.)

Yesterday, since he couldn't go to church, he and Husband made this fancy Pentecost cake while M and I were at our Mass. (He picked blue over red and we just went with it.)

The surprising parts to this recovery are that he isn't supposed to do anything that will raise his blood pressure for two weeks, or go outside so the dust doesn't irritate his throat. (This has been hard to manage the past two days specifically.) And also that he has zero interest in popsicles and ice cream. (Isn't that like the staple?) He hasn't had much appetite at all but the things that have been winners are buttery small shell noodles and watermelon.

Today I had him get out of pajamas for the first time into "real clothes." Which is athletic shorts and a tee shirt so still basically pajamas. But it's a step forward.

Sayonara Tonsils

C got his tonsils and adenoids out yesterday. The surgery went well and we are happily home recovering.

It's a long recovery process and we aren't very far into it yet. I am sure at some point I will write a whole post about the experience but today is not the day.

Have a good weekend!

We Made It!

Hello, Summer Break we are excited you're here! Look how much my guy has grown in this year of school!

I will not miss the "find a matching school sock" game we play every other morning. Why is it that the plain school socks go missing but the patterned socks are so easy to find?! If I am being honest, I am not sad about Kindergarten ending one bit. He, however, is pretty sad. Which is hilarious because for a bulk of the year he definitely did not love school.

Kindergarten was a rough adjustment for us after his TK year which went so well. BUT ultimately he soared socially and academically. His reading scores are through the roof! And his propensity for knowledge is crazy. Other parents have told us their kids have been checking out non-fiction books to learn stuff like C.

We have the benefit of already knowing which teacher he will have next year and I feel so good about 1st grade! I am thankful for our little school community that has been so supportive this year. Last week he said, "I'm going to go to (our local Catholic high school and our local Catholic university) because there's a lot of mysteries in the Bible but if I go to a Catholic high school and college I will have time to learn them all."

Thank God for Catholic school where my favorite guy can learn about the mysteries of the Bible, pray and attend Mass. Now onto summer!! One hour left!

Winding Down

Last night our school had a Splash into Summer Reading Party. It featured my kid's favorite things, reading, pizza, and lemonade. Seriously, for free we had a pizza party and played all kinds of games. BINGO for Books was hugely popular.

This messy haired gal won the raffle for the Pre K-K level! She got a bunch of books and other little goodies.

Today was M's last day of school. Here's a little first day/last day action. Oh, my heart.

She had such a wonderful first year of school. I am so proud of her!
